The forecast was for another rainy day, so I decided to hunker down in my office to catch up on some work. The skies were clear for most of the day, and by the afternoon, it was clear Nico was getting bored. So Shelly and I took a break before dinner to run to the lake to let Nico swim. When I have his fetching toy in my hand, and he sees water for the first time, he gets super excited. We have to walk along the lake shore for a ways to reach a good spot for him to swim. Along the entire walk, he’s mouthing the toy in my hand and spinning in circles, waiting for me to throw it. Today, we practiced him getting off a rock that suddenly drops into deeper water. He’s normally very weary of those situations, but by the end of our retrieving session, he was almost jumping into the water, which is something he never does. He always wants to be able to wade in.
