Nico and I had quite the pre-adventure today before heading out for a walk (run for Nico). I have a handful of spots close to our house that we got to let Nico run. While there are countless trails near us, we avoid locations where other people may be present. There are many reasons for this, primarily because I want to let Nico safely run free. Nico is full of energy, and having him barreling toward you can be scary if you aren’t comfortable with dogs. Similarly, Nico gets along with other dogs but rolls up on other dogs in full-on play mode, which not all dogs appreciate. Nico’s recall is really good, but I like to let him run wherever he wants, so there is a slight chance he could encounter a person or dog I don’t see. I don’t believe it’s safe or respectful to have dogs off-leash in areas where there may be other dogs or people. There were people at all of our normal spots so we went and did some Christmas shopping before going for our walk. We both appreciated the nice sunny afternoon we had.
