Day 1,020
Nico has been at the office with me most of this week. Going to work is actual work for him. Everything we do during the day turns into a training session. When I go to make coffee Nico walks in a heel with me down the hall, holds a sit stay while I make coffee, continues to hold the sit stay in the hallway while I walk the coffee back to me office, I then walk back to get him and we walk in a heel back to my office. In meetings we work on staying calm and neutral around groups of people, which is a huge challenge for Nico. He still does some demand barking and whining as he is working on holding a down stay or while being on a break but still on a leash. When we walk between rooms we’ll practice him holding a stay at the threshold of the door as I drop his leash and enter the room. He’ll wait at the door until he is given the break command and then we’ll practice recalling off people. Since bringing him to Upstate Canine Academy and jump starting his obedience, the photo below is basically what most of my day looks like. Nico looking at me saying, “Ok Dad, what are we doing next?” And, what’s also great is he is settling at the office faster and faster. So when I’m grinding through work at my desk he’s just chilling on his bed or chewing on a bone.
